A golfer who can go all the way in this competition. Straka won it in 2022, finished 5th in 2023, but was cut in 2024. Even though his performances got consecutively worse, we think he’ll be back in form this season, but he’ll need to be on his A-game.

A Deep Dive into PGA National Resort & Spa: Course Analysis for Punters

Known as the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, the event takes place on ‘The Champion Course’, at Palm Beach Gardens, in Florida. It’s a par 70, with a length of 7,125 yards (6,515m) and has an exceptionally difficult stretch called the Bear Trap.

The Bear Trap was designed by Jack Nicklaus and, according to PGA stats, is the third toughest stretch across all non-major courses. Quail Hollow’s 16 through 18 and Pebble Beach’s 8 through 9 are the harder courses.

There are three holes that deserve a particular analysis. The hole 15 is a treacherous 179-yard par 3, with a huge water hazard in the middle of the course. Nicklaus stated that this hole is about precision and guts, as there’s more water than grass on this one. On the other hand, the hole 16 appears as one of the easiest of the three, a par 4 with a water carry in the middle, but it shouldn’t trouble the pros. And then, there’s the hole 17, the hardest of the trio – a par 3 with another huge water carry. Too short and the players are in the water, long and left. This is a tricky bunker shot – a tournament can be won or lost here.

Between 2007 and 2019, 543 golfers have played a competitive round at this course, 415 of which have hit at least one ball in the water across these three holes. That’s 76% of golfers falling foul of the bear trap.
